Serving Chattanooga, Cleveland, East Ridge, Hixson, TN
Minivans are the ideal choice when shopping for a vehicle that can fit the whole family and everyone's gear. Perhaps their strongest suits are their practicality, affordability, and fuel efficiency. 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is an excellent choice offering traditional minivan privileges with all the modern essentials. On the other side is 2017 Kia Sedona which is also an exceptional product, but as you shall see, the Pacifica comes out on top.
Better Performing Minivan
The fact that a minivan is essentially used to transport the family does not mean that it should offer sluggish performance. Chrysler's engineers know this, and that is why every 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 that is good for 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels. EPA fuel estimates place the latest Pacifica at 18 city / 28 highway*. A fully loaded regular Pacifica tows up to 3600 pounds. The Pacifica Hybrid uses a special version of the V6 engine combined with a couple of hybrid motors to deliver 260 horsepower. The motors are fed by a 16-kWh battery pack that is expected to propel the Chrysler for 30 miles before switching to regular gas/electric hybrid operation that claims an 80 MPGe estimate*.
The competing Kia Sedona features a less powerful 3.3-liter V6 engine that makes 276 hp and 248 pound-feet of torque. It utilizes a six-speed automatic transmission that drives the front wheel. The Sedona can tow 3500 pounds and fuel estimates rank it at about 18 city / 24 highway*.
Interior Design and Special Features
The Pacifica interior is modern yet cozy. It packs all of Chrysler's latest tech hardware including the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system which offers crisp and clear graphics and quick responses. There is also an optional "Uconnect Theater" rear entertainment system with Blu-ray disk playback and two 10-inch touchscreens positioned at the back of the front seats. The Pacifica offers 32.3 cubic feet and 87.5 cubic feet of luggage space when the third-row seats are occupied and folded respectively. The metallic rotary gear selector knob gives the van a more upscale feel, and the adoption of an open floor system between the driver and passenger creates more storage space. The collapsible second-row captain seats have been carried over from the previous year and a newly available center seat for the second row boosts the passenger count to eight.
Better Safety and Security
Safety is an essential requirement for a car that is used to haul your family and loved ones around. Standard for 2017 Pacifica is a rearview camera, traction and stability control, front seat and side curtain airbags, and driver and front passenger knee airbags. Also included are rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and blind-spot monitors. Subscription to the Uconnect Access Service gains you access to emergency assistance, vehicle location services, and remote door locking/unlocking. Although it offers almost similar equipment, some of Sedona's trims stop from 60 mph in 125 feet, which is below average. We also note that the rearview camera and front and rear parking sensors are optional equipment for the Sedona.
